 | Artist Statement My influences include the expressionists, early and contemporary surrealists, textiles and tapestry, and pop-culture illustration. Growing up in the Southwest has also affected my work, with the rich and diverse cultures of both Native Americans and near-by Mexico so readily available. My subject matter has ranged from nature and decay to sociological iconography. Religious symbolism, most specifically female mythology, finds its way into nearly every piece. I frequently incorporate the female form into my work; permitting myself a freedom which is at once intimate, universal and anonymous. My goal is to combine seemingly unrelated images into an organic narrative- inviting a unique translation by each subsequent viewer. |
